Meeting #254, Tue 31 July 2012

31 July 2012, a Tuesday, a fifth Tuesday in the month of July 2012. Money Mastery-KL Toastmaster Club has conducted a meeting on this date. Our normal meeting will start at 7:00pm. Before the meeting, all members were helping out to set up the meeting place. A thumbs up to our awesome members for their seamlessly team work.
The Assistant Sergeant At-Arms (ASAA), TM Sunny Low called the meeting to start by reading out the first 5 promises of Toastmasters. Congratulations to TM Sunny Low as this was his first time taking up the role as ASAA. We believe you will learn, grow and continue to contribute your leadership skills to the success of our club. Our president, Ken Chan, ACB, ALB subsequently took over the control from the ASAA and gave his president address to welcome our members and honored guests.
Our Theme of the Day was "Oneness produces fruit of Success" and our Word of the Day was "Agglomerate". I found that the theme was very appropriate to be used for our last meeting in the month of July 2012. Through the great sense of Oneness", the seamlessly team spirit, the organizing committee have successfully conducted our club's 10th Anniversary Celebration cum 2012/2013 Club Officers Installation. From the forming of the committee, looking out for venue until everything was properly well in place, "Oneness" produces fruit of success. After the celebration, the next event of the club was the Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contests. Our Organizing Chair, TM Ron Yeap has demonstrated his talented leadership skill. The contests were carried out in proper.
While Ken was giving his address, members were concentrated and paying full attention to him. This is what we called "Leadership by Example". Bravo, team!
It was our honor to have Mdm Chan Siew Peng, ACS, CL as our esteemed General Evaluator (GE). A round of applause to her!
And, our Toastmaster of the Evening was none other than our sweet and humble Serena Kong, CC. It was her effort in making sure the meeting was carried out in proper, according to the pre-planned agenda. Thank you, Serena!
Our new member, TM Sunny Low, besides took up the role as ASAA, he was also the time keeper of the evening, making sure that everybody should speak within the time limit. And, Ron, a regular supporter of our meetings, has demonstrated his leadership by sitting next to Sunny, guided him through the meeting. Well done Sunny and Ron. Our club should have more such good examples in grooming more "leaders".
Our Table Topics Master of the meeting, EK Yeo, CC, CL was well prepared and has done a great job in conducting the table topics session. All his topics were theme of the day related and have been written on a calendar. The  Table Topics participants chose a month, got the topic and gave their impromptu speech tight away. Our guests, Siew Peng (our GE) and Doreen (our guest) have also taken part. They have spoken and shown us one is a seasoned Toastmaster (Siew Peng) and Doreen "was" a Toastmaster and former Area Governor. Both spoke very well. In our project speech session, our first speaker, TM Mathew Philippose delivered his fifth project speech, which focused on body language. His title was "Hotel, hotel, hotel... oh my experience". He shared his experience of lodging into various hotels during his work and family vacations. All sorts of things happened to him. It was humor and he has a lot of body languages to make his stories more real. Well done Mathew! Ken Chan, ACB, ALB delivered his fifth speech of The Professional Speaker in the Advanced Communication Manual, with a title of You Can Do It!. he told us his 5 times failures before he tasted the sweetness of success. He told us stories, encouraging us how we should always get ourselves prepared; how shouldn't we give so early and easily. When there is a desire in us, we can do it! Thank you Ken for your inspiring speech.
After Ken, our Immediate Past President (IPP), Victor Wan has also presented us a presentation on The Successful Club Series, with the title of The Toastmasters Educational Program. He showed us the "road map" from a Toastmaster, achieving all the way till the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM).
After the short break, we came back and continue with the next excitement, speech evaluation session. The GE led in this session and introduced the evaluator one by one.
Kelvin Chong, CC has given a very good try to be the speech evaluator for the first time. Well done Kelvin and we look forward to your more encouraging and inspiring evaluation in the near future.
Francis Ng, DTM cum club advisor, was giving his evaluation to speech from Ken. His good and precise evaluation has provided a lot of learning points for everyone of us.
And, award time. Doreen, our guest was awarded the Best Table Topics Speech. Congratulations to Doreen. We definitely wish to see Doreen to be here more frequent and Doreen, BE OUR MEMBER!
Thank you Siew Peng for your valuable time spent with us. Thank you also for your suggestive and constructive input in making everyone to be better, hence a better club. We will remember to try not to use "However" or "But" when we are giving good comments to our members. That is a very good idea indeed. Our next meeting will be on 14 August 2012. See all of you then and have a good day!

Signing off,
CP Lau
