Toastmasters Meeting # 337

As I bring to your attention to our club Meeting#337, it brings me to highlight what toastmasters offer for the curious people out there.

Membership of a Toastmasters club is something which is verdant with opportunities. Membership can allow you to meet who you would not have met before and friendships are formed. It is also a great place for networking and even finding a spouse. I know of a prime case of people meeting their future spouse in a Toastmasters club. A Toastmasters club is the prime venue for improving your public speaking skills.  When we sharpen our ability to speak in front of a crowd of people we lose our inhibitions, we cultivate self-confidence and the courage to speak. It allows anyone no matter what position in business strata. It can be from executives to engineers and lawyers it gives you the ability to address crowds of people with absolute confidence.

Table Topics is my personal favourite in toastmasters meeting. I usually never miss an opportunity to use a table topics session to speak. It is the advice I give to all new member. Go and speak. It does not matter if you are not sure what you are speaking about. Just speak, project your voice and sharpen your skills. That is what I firmly believe. I gained my courage to speak by using this session.

Membership of a Toastmasters has manage advantages. Being a member of a club also gives you the opportunity not only to develop your speaking skills, it also helps you enhance your leadership skills. Some of these roles you play are such as speech evaluator, table topics master and general evaluator.  Furthermore it also gives a member the experience in running and management of a club. This learning experience you can translate in handling any organisation.
Humor Master: Vijayakumar, CC

Our club meeting #337 was one of the nicest meeting I have attended. In this meeting I had the privilege to play dual role. I was both the Humour master and the Table Topics Evaluator. As a Humour Master, I shared my jokes to put smiles and laughter in faces of the audience.  As a table topic evaluator, this time I was not speaking but evaluating my friends.

General Evaluator: SK Ratnam, DTM

Our general evaluator, SK. Ratnam, DTM, was someone I have met at the Club Officers Training before. He was therefore no stranger to me. On this day I like to say he gave a nice evaluation on the meeting and he praised our club and told his amazement at the number of ribbons from Toastmasters International that festoon the board where they are displayed.

Speech Evaluator: Ny Yee Chia, CC

One of the panel of evaluators was Ng Yee Chia, CC he is also someone I met two years ago and from what I remember about his speaking abilities they have mushroomed greatly. He spoke with sheer confidence in his evaluation and even when he spoke at the table topics.

Table Topics Speaker:Wendy Sim
It was very nice to hear Wendy Sim speak, she was quite a new member. She has improved in the table topics this time and I look forward to hear her. As I look back I can say, the challenge she faced which is what I faced when I first joined toastmasters. The best way to face a challenge is to lose fear of it and charge ahead.  Fear then shrinks in size from a T.Rex sized dinosaur to a frightened little chicken.

Our Assigned Speech Speaker, Dr.Thila Chelliah ACS, ALB, gave a deep and insightful speech about humility. New member Chee Heng King poured out his heart out to a challenge he is facing. I commiserate with him.  He is a brave man and perhaps tougher than he thinks.  Hj.Hashim, I think, stole a leaf from the page of the late Nelson Mandela. Hj. Hashmi’s s speech which the late Nelson Mandela gave, captured vividly what Nelson Mandela said those years ago. I think that the speech was pregnant with inspiration and counsel for anyone who aspires to challenge some entity that needs to be removed- thoughts anyone???

Speaker 1: Chee Heng King

Speaker 2: Dr. Thila, ACS, ALB

Speaker 3: Hj. Hashim Adnan, ACB, ALS

Division C Team Building August 8th & 9th 2015

Money Mastery-KL toastmasters had a privilege to be part of this team building program which was held in Genting View Resort in Genting Highlands. A total of 8 members from our club were present. It was a program which had a theme, Fun filling, Enjoyable, Energetic and Lively experience. The Program lived up to its expectation.

Our members left in 4 vehicles to join the team at the resort. The program began with a Toastmasters meeting, we had table topics, prepared speeches, we had the evaluators report, the grammarian report, a timers report and General evaluators report. It was so interesting to see a meeting with so many clubs have one solid meeting. Our club members actively participated in this event EK Yeo, CC who was the table topics master and Mathew Philippose, CC, CL who was one of the speech evaluators.

EK Yeo, CC, CL as Table Topics Master
Mathew Philippose, CC,CL as Speech Evaluator

Our young members Manish Kumar, Chong Ji Sheng and Chee Heng King were energetic and sporting. We also saw our newest member Lee Li Eng, attending her first meeting with much enthusiasm. One might say Dr Thilla ACS, ALB senior in age but she actively participated in the events with such jubilation proving the point age is not the matter; she is really young at heart.

Dr. Thila, ACS, ALB

CP Lau, ACB, ALB

One of Past President CP Lau ACB, ALB was the council member who was there giving direction to the programs; all look forward to hear his voice because he brings the interesting announcements.

We had much team building activities; one of the key programs was when each group had to build the tallest tower with newspaper and cellophane tape. The test was when we have to shift the tower and also it was tested to wind. This activity was very interesting because everyone was seen putting their minds together and trying to complete it in the time set. There was so much fun and laughter.

Christopher Choong DTM inspired us with many interesting lively talks and activities that not only had much humor but it also gave the ability of understanding each other. He brought us to see the weakness we see in each other are not what we need to look at but the strength we find in each other.

"I can't stop laughing!... Hahahah..."

In conclusion, everyone enjoyed the food, the activities and much laughter. Friends its time to rise up to the next opportune time of a team building program in our Division or club.

King listened attentively to the presentation.

Leaders need to communicate...

Enjoy the PRESENT Moment ...

I will like to sum the whole event in the words of Ralph C. Smedley
“We learn the best in moments of enjoyment”

A contagious memory that lights the future.
