25.02.2020 Meeting #456- There Is Only One Way To Succeed At Anything And That Is To Give Everything.

Word of the day: Indomitable

I must admit, this is the first time that I cannot remember the theme of the meeting even after reading it again and again. It is quite mouthful.

I am convinced that my President who is an avid reader, came out with this quote to challenge us, and at the same time.

Mr. President had a strong message to give to us this time, and hence made it into the theme of this meeting, “There is only one way to succeed at anything and this is to give everything”. A quote by Vince Lombardi. In his ultimate vision, he hopes to see the members able to overcome the fear of public speaking, and excel in communication and leadership skills.

The meeting today was overwhelmed by guest attendance which shore up one-third of the total audience.

KL Loh, as the President also took the role of Toastmaster of the Evening (TME). He greeted and welcomed the guest warmly like old friends.

Among the guests that came that day including, Adam from Czech Republic, Rozita, the colleague of Chitirra, and a gentleman Chan.

After the meeting had been called to order, the role players were ready in their positions. They were, Manish Jha as the Ah-Counter, Abdulrahman as Grammarian, Wendy Sim as Timer and KT Chok as Table Topics® Evaluator.

Our General Evaluator of the day was Area C1 Director, Julia Leong, ACG, ALB, who is also a proud member of Money Mastery-KL.

The meeting kickstarted the first session, the Table Topics® session which was led by Manish Jha as the Table Topics® Master. Table Topics® session always charge up the adrenalin of the audiences, as we do not know who would be ‘volunteered’ to take the challenge. However the fun and exciting experience would eventually bring  3 members and a guest took the challenge to answer the impromptu topics thrown to them. They were Adam, Chitirra, Hj Hashim and Victor Wan.

When the challenging session is completed, the TME led us to the second session, the prepared speech session. We had 4 speakers ready to deliver their speeches.

The first speaker was Hai Liang, speaking on the ‘Effective Coaching’ Pathway. He is a trainer and coach, the subject that he brought to us, “Emotional Intelligence”, is a subject that is within his expertise.

The second speaker was Preston Ong, delivering another interesting subject from the ‘Effective Coaching’ path, which was also related to his personal experience. The speech was titled as “Overcoming the Parkinson’s Law”.

The third speaker was CS Ong, PM1, presenting a project to project ‘Effective Body Language’ from the ‘Presentation Mastery’ Pathway. He spoke about a project experience that he was involved, “Exploring the Universe at the Highest Energies Part 1”, a project that involved astronomy science.

The forth speaker is Ken Chan, DTM. He has started his 2nd Pathways which is ‘Dynamic Leadership’. His title was “Lead with Ethics”, and he had to lead a question and answer session.

After a short break for members to take a quick bite of our refreshment, the meeting resume for the third session. Julia, our General Evaluator took control of the evaluation session from the TME.

The first evaluator invited to stage was Table Topics ® Evaluator, KT Chok, PM4.

The subsequent speech evaluators included CP Lau, DTM who gave evaluation to Hai Liang; Hj Hashim, DTM who gave evaluation to Preston; Chitirra, LD1 delivered her evaluation on CS Ong, PM1; and finally Ron Yeap, ACS, ALB delivered his evaluation on Ken Chan, DTM.

All the 3 sessions had conducted the voting for the best performers. As the evaluation session ended, the stage was handed back to the TME. And TME was ready with the certificates to best performers.

Below are the list of the winners,
Best Table Topics ® Speaker             :           Hj Hashim, DTM
Best Project Speaker                         :           Ken Chan, DTM
Best Speech Evaluator                      :           Chitirra, LD1

The president also gave opportunities to the guests to give their feedback. All of them seemed to agree that we had indeed run a very enthralling meeting.

At the closing, the TME changed his hat back to a President to give his closing remarks. As he kept on reminding us not to forget our purpose to join Toastmasters, that we should make our effort worth in improving ourselves through this friendly learning platform. And that summed up the message behind the theme of the meeting.

At #455 meeting an apt 'theme of the day' coined for toastmasters and guest of Money Mastery-KL Toastmaster Club (MMKL), a President's Distinguished Club since 2003. A visionary theme to  instill a sense of purpose in  MMKL toastmasters mind for their designated roles. What a night it would be, with good and positive vibes seen in every toastmaster’s expressions.
