Toastmasters Meeting #345

The glamour of the year could be seen in our last meeting of the month on the 29th December 2016.  It was just two days to year end.  This was our final meeting, we had the theme Reflections and Evaluations, and this theme came very well with Word of the Day “Ponder”.   As soon as the grammarian for the day DJ Ong, CC introduce the word of the day, the President Mathew, CC, CL motioned to each member began to introduce themselves and as usual they included the word of the Day and Theme in their introductions.

The baton of control of the meeting changed hands to the toastmaster of the evening (TME), and we had the experience of the Immediate Past President (IPP) Serena Kong, ACB leading us into the program of the day. Money Mastery-KL really love to see more ladies. In this particular meeting we see many ladies in action.  At the call of the TME the table topic master another lovely toastmaster Yap Ooi Yee getting members to think on their feet. Toastmaster Ooi Yee, I should say in the earlier meeting captivated the audience with her dazzling ice breaking speech. This time she brought in an array of interesting topics that made people carefully ponder on the passing year and the resolutions for the New Year.

Another interesting program in toastmasters program is the prepared speeches, and you may guess who started the ball rolling for the speeches, yes! It is another lady by the name of Wendy Sim. She captivated the audience with her speech entitled “an unforgettable experience”. She told us a story of her trip to the east coast. How this trip was interrupted by her car tire going puncture. It was a very interesting speech she demonstrated as her speech project requires her body language. The speech had suspense and laughter.

The next speech as usual by our veteran speaker Ken Chan, DTM he quizzed everyone with his speech title Can or Can’t. Moving to and fro he engaged the audience with his humorous speech. His speech was final speech from the competent communicator manual, this entitled him for a standing Ovation.  And finally our last speech was by our senior member EK Yeo,CC,CL, he delivered a speech based on the Successful Club Series leading our club to examine the moment of truth and where does the club stand in the true reflection.

After the 10 minutes break, the President Mathew, CC,CL inducted the new members. It had been the club tradition to induct the newly joined members so that they would get the support from the club members.

After that, our General evaluator a young energetic gentleman Joseph Wong took stage. He led a team of evaluators, (Table Topics Evaluator) Michael FG, ATMB , (Prepared speech evaluators) Francis Vasanthi, ACS, ALB, Kevin Khoo, CC who helped everyone for a better speech as they evaluated the speakers.  On that night, one of the highlight was, DJ Ong, CC played a wonderful job as a grammarian. So as Sivadas, CC who came to our meeting and took up the role as Ah-Counter when call upon to do so.

The most heart-felt moment was when Tracy stood up and gave her appreciation speech to the members who gave her courage, advice and support along her journey in our club. We would definitely miss you, Tracy!

Meeting #345 was the last meeting in 2015, and we could not end the meeting silently. After giving the Best Table Topics Speech to Vijayakuamr, CC, Hj. Hashim, ACB, ALS took the floor. He presented the token of appreciation which was given by the District to CP Lau, ACB, ALB for his contribution to district for the year 2014/2015. Well done, CP Lau, ACB, ALB!

After that, President Mathew adjourned the meeting and we began our fellowship session!

It may look like another common meeting. Well truly, it was meeting that was instrument for the count- down of the close of 2015 and the beginning of our meetings in 2016.

Sign off,
Mathew Philippose, CC, CL
President 2015/2016
