Another successful and well attended meeting for the club. Total attendants: 24 with 5 guests present, including Toastmaster Rebecca all the way from Singapore, who obliged us to play the role of Grammarian at the last minute. Thank you Rebecca for being so sporting and you took 16 mins for delivering your thorough report on the meetings performance in the usage of the English language.
The theme for the meeting was "Happy Parents Day" which was well picked up by Tan Ben Hoe for his Table Topics session, though the topics crafted by Ben Hoe were very challenging for the TT speakers but they managed to talk around them. TM Abdulrahaman from Nigeria, our new member emerged as the most voted speaker for the session.
The President however had nothing much to comment on the theme of the meeting and decided to chose the word of the day..."deliberate" as his talking point in his Presidential address/message, as thus...
DELIBERATING ABOUT LIFE
Fellow toastmasters, ladies and gentlemen. As I was looking at the word of the day “DELIBERATE”, I thought it would be an opportune time for me to talk to you about life, to see how ready we are to face the reality of life.
If you look at life the wrong way there is always cause for alarm. It’s the same way a RM20 bill can look so big when it goes to charity and so small when it goes to groceries. What you see depends mainly on what you look for. Some people complain because roses have thorns. When you deliberate on it, you are thankful that thorns have roses.
To one person the world is desolate, dull and empty; to another the same world looks rich, interesting and full of meaning. How we position ourselves to see makes all the difference. You can never see the sunrise by looking to the west. The choice is up to deliberate.
Fellow Toastmasters, position yourself to receive, not resist. How you see things on the outside of you depends on how things are on the inside of you. Norman Vincent Peale said “Any fact facing us is not as important as our attitude towards it, for that determines our success or failure.” Example, don’t pray for rain, if you are going to complain about the mud.
As you deliberate, you will see success, whereas others see only failures. Expect something good to happen. That expectation will energize your dreams and give you momentum. You’ll find that life responds to your outlook. We go where our vision is. Life, ladies and gentlemen, is mostly a matter of expectation.

Very right indeed, Life is a matter of expectation. To be on the safe side, adhere to this principle of life: "I AM NOT BORN INTO THIS WORLD TO LIVE UP TO YOUR EXPECTATIONS, NEITHER WERE YOU BORN INTO THIS WORLD TO LIVE UP TO MINE." Something for everyone to ponder!
