KOK SOOK MENG COMPLETED HER CC MANUAL IN FIVE MONTHS, A RECORD BREAKER

Toastmaster Kok Sook Meng completed her 10th project speech from the Basic Communication Manual at the Club meeting #171 held on 14th April 2009, thus achieving her Competent Communicator educational award and thus contributing towards the club DCP points bringing towards achieving the President's Distinguished Club status. For the record I believe Sook Meng completed her basic manual within five months, by far the shortest record time in the club. Congratulations to Sook Meng and you are an inspiration to the new club members and a good role model. You have shown to the others, it's a matter of whether you want to do it or not. If you want you can and once you have started you never look back...you move forward until you achieve your target. Indeed you have "seize every opportunity and take chances" and that's the theme for the meeting, a historic ocassion for Sook Meng's life in her toastmastering journey. Well let's see what the President has to say about the theme.

TAKE CHANCES!

SEIZE EVERY OPPORTUNITY. TAKE CHANCES.

For many years "safety first has been the saying of the human race.....but it has never been the motto of leaders. A leader must face danger. He must take the risk, the blame and face the brunt of th storm, says Herbert Casson. If you want to be successful, you must either have a chance or take one. Please remember fellow toastmasters that you can't get your head above water if you never stick your neck out.
If you never take risks, you will never accomplish great things. Everybody dies, but not everyone has lived. As Elizabeth Kenny said "It is better to be a lion for a day than sheep all your life" If you dare for nothing, you might as well hope for nothing. If you don't risk anything , you risk even more.
Whenever you see a successful person, I guarantee that person took risks and made courageous decisions. Become known for doing what people said couldn't be done. If you found yourself throughout life never scared, never embarrassed, never disappointed or hurt, it means you have never taken any risk.
You have an opportunity to improve yourself. If you want your life to get better, you'll have to take risks. There is simply no way you can grow without taking chances.
