December is a month of festive!
Coincidently, our 2nd meeting of the month falls on 25th December, which is a
festive holiday celebrated worldwide; it is Christmas! As a result, we have
arranged a joint meeting with Puchong English Toastmasters Club (PETS) on 17
December 2012. It was their 7th meeting and our 265th meeting!
Money Mastery-KL (MMKL) Toastmasters were
there at the PETS Club's venue at around 7pm. It was so kind of PETS to have
prepared some very delicious home cooked noodles for members and guests.
The meeting started at 8:00pm with PETS
Club President, Eric Woo's welcome speech.
Our member, Mathew Philippose, CC was the
ASAA of the meeting. He has called the meeting to order and led the
toastmasters to read out the Toastmasters' promises. It was amazing that PETS
Club has managed to bring quite a number of guests to visit the club. I would
like to also encourage our members to bring as many guest as possible so they
too can learn together with us.
This meeting was a very special one.
Besides a joint meeting, we have 3 Distinguished Toastmasters attended the
meeting, they are Francis Ng, DTM, Geoff Andrew, DTM and Robert Ram, DTM. Truly
honored to have them in the same meeting.
The theme of the meeting was "Just Do It" proposed by PETS Club.
And the word of the day was "Decisive".
The Table Topics Master of the evening,
Jing Yi, ACB, CL has conducted one of the most interesting session of the day.
It was a real fun and a real test on the table topics speakers. A topic was
given, and half way while the speaker was speaking, an object will be given to
the speaker. The speaker will continue his speech but to link the object given
to his speech. Every speaker had performed so well that each and everyone of
them spoke so well and the speech was well connected with the object given.
Our participants for the table topics
were:-
1.
Mathew Philippose, CC
2.
Penny Leong, TM
3.
Robert Ram, DTM
4.
Brenda Leong, TM
5.
Ken Chan, ACS, ALB
Bravo to all of them for accepting the
challenge and giving their impromptu speeches.
The meeting moved on to the very
interesting session, the project speech session. We have 3 speeches lined up
for the members.
CP Lau, CC has begun the session by
delivering his 4th speech of the Advanced Communication, Humorously Speaking
Manual, Keep Them Laughing. His speech title was "Assumption". He
shared with the audience a few stories on the consequences of making
assumptions on things/ situations. In his humorous speech, besides humor
stories, there was a message brought to the audience that we should not make
assumption, instead we should find out the actual situation before any
decision/ action taken.
David Lai, CC from Ambank Toastmasters
Club, was the second speaker to deliver his advanced speech from the Advanced
Communication, The Professional Speaker Manual, 2nd speech, Speaking to
Entertain titled "Competent Driver". He has brilliantly made use of
the objectives from the 10 project speeches from the Competent Communication
Manual to describe how can one become a competent driver. The speech was truly
entertaining and the lessons taught were appropriate and relevant to the
audience.
The final speaker was also from MMKL Toastmasters
Club. He was none other than our great President, Ken Chan, ACS ALB. He told a
story. It was a project speech from the Advanced Communication, Story Telling
Manual, 5th speech, Story Telling, titled "Independence Day".
After the break, the meeting proceeded to
the Speech Evaluation session. Victor Ong, ACG, ALB was the evaluator for all
participants of the Table Topics session. He commented on the strengths of
every speakers. Not only that, he also provided constructive suggestions to
them on how to improve and bring their speaking skills to the next level.
Robert Ram, DTM was the evaluator for CP
Lau. He has provided his valuable comments on CP Lau's speech. Overall, the
stories told by CP Lau has met the objective of the speech, which was to keep
the audience laughing. Robert has also highlighted on the areas that CP Lau can
improve on.
Francis Ng, DTM was the evaluator for David
Lai. He highlighted that using the CC manual as the example of driving lessons
was a very good point to use. The audience will be able to relate the lessons
to learn.
And finally, Moses Wong, CC, CL was the
evaluator for Ken Chan. Moses highlighted it was a very good story as everyone
in the room will be able to understand and imagine the atmosphere on the round
table discussion by our great country leaders.
The General Evaluator of the meeting was

to speakers as well as to the club o the organizing of the meeting.
