The Mouse Trap and You
A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.
What food might this contain?' the mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.
Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning : 'There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!'
The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, 'Mr.Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it.'
The mouse turned to the pig and told him, 'There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!'
The pig sympathized, but said, 'I am so very sorry, Mr.Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers.'
The cow said, 'Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose.'
So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap . . . alone. That very night a sound was heard throughout the house - like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.
The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife.
The farmer rushed her to the hospital, and she returned home with a fever.
Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient.
But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer's wife did not get well, and she died. So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.
The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.
So, Dear Toastmasters the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember - when one of us is threatened, we all are at a risk.
We all are together in the Toastmasters journey.
We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

August 11, 2009 was an awesome meeting! Everyone was in high spirit and the meeting room was filled with energy. There were 8 guests as well, kudos!
The President, CC CL Siew Yin delivered her presidential address in line with the theme of the meeting, “Merdeka Spirit”. A shout of “Merdeka” echoed through the room and reverberated by the members. New members ie. Vince Kek, Abdulrahaman and Eileen Lau were voted into the club and went through the induction session. CC Cindy Foong as the TME was well prepared, amiable and composed. She was even equipped with a Malaysian flag! Invocation was well delivered by ATMG KL Loh who inspired all members and guests to stand up and shouted, “Merdeka” 3 times. It was indeed a high spirit session.
Table Topics Master for the first time, CC Kok Sook Meng gave very interesting topics during her session and 3 out of 4 participants were guests. Bravo to all of you! The prepared speeches were equally creative, mesmerizing and informative. .. "When I Close My Eyes" by Vince Kek, "Fasting" by Eileen Lau and "A Twist of Fate" by Julia Leong. We were very privileged to listen to our club’s champion ie. ACB, CL Haji Naburi’s humorous speech followed by open evaluation from the floor.
Thanks to CC, CL KH Song for providing the sumptuous food. After yummy food during break, ACS, CL Johnny Yong led the interesting evaluation session. Congratulations to the role players for the first time, ie. Alvin Wong as the time keeper, CC Kok Sook Meng as the Table Topics Master and TM Vince Kek for his Ice Breaker speech.
The blue ribbon of the President Distinguished Club 2008/09 from Toastmasters International was presented by the Area W1 Governor, Syamala to the our Immediate Past President, CC, CL Haji Hashim Adnan. Syamala delivered a very informative speech and further enhanced by the “Frog Story” in her delivery. Thanks to TM Julia, we had very tasty Secret Recipe cake for our August babies’ birthday celebration.

The Contest Night that is full of Laughter!
It's contest season again!
For Toastmasters, it's a time to get our blood pumped up. On 28th July 2009, we had our club's 2009/2010 Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contests. It was an event that brought all the club members as well as Toastmasters from other clubs together. Apart from that, we are honored to have our Division Governor, DTM Soh Fong Wai as our Chief Judge that night. And this time around, we had in total 15 contestants from our club:

As usual, Victor Wan is kind enough to bring along his camcorder gadget to record the entire contest night! He will be doing some editing before showing us the final footage. So stay tuned folks.
As you can imagine, the Humorous Speech Contest is all about humor! On that night, we had some good laugh throughout the contest, as MK Low humored us about 'Contractor', as KL Loh revealed 'The secret of Staying Young', as Paul Tan answered the question of 'Where do you come from', as Abdul Aziz gave us some tips on 'The Best time to Invest', and amongst others. It was an enjoyable and entertaining session for all of us.
For the Evaluation Contest, we had Cheah Soo Chuan from MIM Toastmasters Club of Kuala Lumpur as the Test Speaker, and he gave an Ice Breaker Speech for 5-7 minutes. All the contestants are to evaluate the speech and provide their feedback in the allocated time of 3 minutes.
So after the Test Speaker had spoken, all the Evaluation contestants (including me!) had to leave the room and got quarantined in another room (not for AH1N1 purpose, of course). After that, each of us will enter the room to give our evaluation speech, one after another.
Though I was not in the room to hear all the evaluations, I believed all of the speeches were good and carried out in their unique style. Why? Because except me, all the contestants are very experienced speakers, not to mention their evaluation skills!
After a hard time deciding, the winners were announced at the end of the evening.
To all the winners and contestants, I wish to give my heartiest CONGRATULATIONS to all of you!

NEW TERM, NEW PEOPLE, NEW EXPECTATION
Fellow Toastmasters, distinguished guests, friends, ladies and gentlemen, good evening. As you know, a new team of Exco members has been installed last Friday 10 July 2009. This means, the term of my team has expired.
Fellow toastmasters, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every member of Money Mastery-KL Toastmasters Club for having given me all your support and cooperation during my term as President. On behalf of your Exco, I would like to express our sincere and deepest appreciation for your contributions to the club. We are very proud of your dedication in toastmasters’ activities which have made Money Mastery-KL Toastmasters Club to achieve yet again the President's Distinguished Club for the 6th time in a row. You must be proud too because you have also made Money Mastery-KL Toastmasters Club as one of the most admired clubs in Area W1.
To my colleagues in the Exco, I want to thank each of you from the bottom of my heart, for whatever support you have given me during the past year. Together, we have achieved many things during the past one year for our club. So to Siew Yin, EK Yeo, Haji Naburi, Gean Lau, KH Song, a million thanks to all of you. Of course, not forgetting our IPP Ben Hoe and Advisor Francis Ng, who have always given your unselfish advice and guidance to me and to the Exco. To both of you, thank you for being an excellent mentor for all of us.
I also want to recognize a very good friend of mine. This man is also a very good friend to all of you. This is the man who had untiringly been buying the nasi lemak for all of us for our meeting every fortnightly. He is non other than our fellow Toastmaster Paul Tan.
Finally, it is time for us to move on to a NEW TERM and to hand the baton to the NEW PEOPLE with their NEW EXPECTATION. I would like to congratulate the members of the new Exco which is led by President Liew Siew Yin. This new dynamic team, I am sure, will take this club of ours to a new height in the next term. A New Term, a New Beginning, starts with the Installation Dinner!
10th of July marked the very first event of the new term 2009- 2010 for Money Mastery-KL Toastmasters Club. It was the joint installation dinner for Money Mastery-KL Toastmasters Club and MIA Toastmasters Club, held in a stylish restaurant called PADI House at Jalan P. Ramlee.
It was an important occasion for Toastmasters because this is an annual event where the baton will be passed from the last term club committee to the newly elected club committee. On this special night, the newly elected Exco-members for the term will get installed into their new roles and positions.
To our honour and pleasure, we had a few distinguished guests namely DTM Geoff Andrew, DTM Dominic Gerard Joseph, current Division W Governer DTM Soh Fong Wai, Past Division W Governer Azmi Shahrin and our current Area W1 Governer CC Syamala Murigiah, to join us on this lovely evening. We had full attendance of our club Exco on that night, though our Immediate Past President CC, CL Haji Hashim was absent with apologies due an important business trip that he had to make.
Organizing Chair CC, CL KH Song did a marvelous job in planning and setting up the whole event. Scrumptious food in a beautiful restaurant, what a perfect ambiance for a gathering amongst both old and new friends. In addition, thanks to Immediate Past President of MIA Toastmasters Club Kelvin, we got a great deal on the food and venue that night! Score!
During the installation ceremony chaired by our Area W1 Governor Syamala, each exco member of both club pledged to serve his or her club with utmost integrity and aspiration in his or her respective role.

At the end of the ceremony, the president of each club presented their very first presidential speech to the club members. For our club, our new Mdm President, CC, CL Liew Siew Yin appealed to the new exco members to do their very best in serving the members in the club, and achieving the 10 DCP goals for 2009 - 2010, in order to live up the Division W motto - FORWARD, CHANGE, GROW.
After the ceremony, it was time for Table Topics - one of the widely favoured activities of Toastmasters. DTM Geoff Andrew, the Table Topics Master of the night, had conducted the 40 minutes session brilliantly. Firstly, he planned the topics around the idea of Money, quite apt for the occasion as we had both the money managers (MIA) and the money makers (Money Mastery) in the room, as he puts it. Secondly, the rule of the game is that after one volunteer from a club has spoken on a topic, a volunteer from the other club should follow and speak on the same topic. Back and forth, we had in total 8 Table Topics speakers that night, 4 from each club.
All the speakers spoke enthusiastically on their given topics. Guess that when it comes to money, we all have much to express, especially when you're a money manager, or a money maker =)
As for the winner, CONGRATULATIONS to DTM Dominic Gerard Joseph, who won the title of Best Table Topics speaker of the night with his humorous and clever speech on the title 'If you have $1 million, what would you do with it?'
Overall, it was a splendid night and I think the members and guests who were there would all agree with me when I say that. It was indeed an marvelous event to pump up our energy and kick start for the new 2009-2010 term!
As our Mdm president put it, it's time for us to move forward, grow and change! All the best to the new leadership and all the members of Money Mastery-KL Toastmasters Club!

2009 - 2010
It was an important occasion for Toastmasters because this is an annual event where the baton will be passed from the last term club committee to the newly elected club committee. On this special night, the newly elected Exco-members for the term will get installed into their new roles and positions.
To our honour and pleasure, we had a few distinguished guests namely DTM Geoff Andrew, DTM Dominic Gerard Joseph, current Division W Governer DTM Soh Fong Wai, Past Division W Governer Azmi Shahrin and our current Area W1 Governer CC Syamala Murigiah, to join us on this lovely evening. We had full attendance of our club Exco on that night, though our Immediate Past President CC, CL Haji Hashim was absent with apologies due an important business trip that he had to make.
Organizing Chair CC, CL KH Song did a marvelous job in planning and setting up the whole event. Scrumptious food in a beautiful restaurant, what a perfect ambiance for a gathering amongst both old and new friends. In addition, thanks to Immediate Past President of MIA Toastmasters Club Kelvin, we got a great deal on the food and venue that night! Score!
During the installation ceremony chaired by our Area W1 Governor Syamala, each exco member of both club pledged to serve his or her club with utmost integrity and aspiration in his or her respective role.

At the end of the ceremony, the president of each club presented their very first presidential speech to the club members. For our club, our new Mdm President, CC, CL Liew Siew Yin appealed to the new exco members to do their very best in serving the members in the club, and achieving the 10 DCP goals for 2009 - 2010, in order to live up the Division W motto - FORWARD, CHANGE, GROW.
After the ceremony, it was time for Table Topics - one of the widely favoured activities of Toastmasters. DTM Geoff Andrew, the Table Topics Master of the night, had conducted the 40 minutes session brilliantly. Firstly, he planned the topics around the idea of Money, quite apt for the occasion as we had both the money managers (MIA) and the money makers (Money Mastery) in the room, as he puts it.
