Word of the Day: FEAR

The first meeting in May for Money Mastery-KL has been traditionally and intentionally shortened, as on this same day, the club will adjourn to start the Annual Business Meeting and club election.
I
am at ease although I am the Timer for the meeting. We are still under movement
control to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, we still run our club on the internet
via Zoom application. This gave me the comfort of attending the meeting without
the worry of being late.
The
meeting started at 7 pm, which is 15 minutes earlier than the normal meeting
time of 7:15 pm, as we will enjoy a longer break after 7:20 pm, to allow our
Muslim friends who were fasting in the holy month to break the fast.
The
President KL Loh, ATMG took over the stage presiding the President’s address. He
greeted our General Evaluator, Datuk Dr John Lau, DTM who resided in Kuching,
also the member of honour of Money Mastery-KL, for joining our meeting. As we
followed the tradition of the club, every attendee were given the opportunity
to introduce themselves and use the word or theme of the day. As we ended the
introduction session, the bell just rang to remind us it is time of Maghrib and
we shall adjourn for the break.
As
we returned to the meeting, the Toastmaster of the Evening, Abdulrahman, PM2 is
ready to take the stage. He has becoming more instrumental with the role of
TME, quickly spotted that the attendees were our closed members, therefore
suggested to save some time by skipping the Toastmasters history introduction.
We had no objection on that.
After
inviting the technical role players to explain their roles, the meeting finally
kick-started with the Table Topics® session. The Table Topics® Master is Manish Jha, IP1. He came prepared with 8 random
topics for the audience to challenge.
4 FEAR-less members had braced themselves
for the impromptu speaking. The first speaker was our latest member, Salem Saleh.
The 2nd speaker that volunteered himself, was the General Evaluator,
Datuk Dr. John Lau, DTM; the 3rd speaker that came online for the
challenge was Vijaykumar, CC. While it looked like the guys had dominated the
challenge so far, however, the last speaker was a ‘she’. Dr. Yan Huey Jiuan, who
had been a long time member before many of us in Money Mastery-KL, finally got
to see her in the meeting, thanks to the borderless meeting venue in the
internet space.
With no time to waste, as soon as the Table Topics®
session ended, General Evaluator took the stage. After invited Table Topics®
Evaluator, Mathew Philippose, EC1 to deliver his evaluation, GE had now delivered
his GE report to the club.
The TME returned to limelight with the result from
the Table Topics® session. As it turned out, the best Table Topics® speaker
went to Datuk Dr. John Lau, DTM.
Mr. President was invited back to the stage for the
closing address. As he always reminds us as well as himself not to forget the
reason to join Toastmasters. I believe a person with strong belief, and always
stay true to the real cause would always win in the race of life, just like the
belief of our president, that had brought his strong management experience to
the club and once again led the club to the President’s Distinguished status in
8 months!
The online meeting had left many lamenting missing
the fragrance of our well deserving nasi lemak and curry puffs. However, it
also helped us to breakthrough geographical challenges, bringing people from
different part of the world to meet; the phenomenal moment like how telephone
changed how we communicate more than 130 years ago.
Let’ embrace the new normal without FEAR,
and work together to suppress the COVID-19 pandemic till it goes away.
