I felt in my heart to write a review
of the last meeting, both for the benefit of members who did not come and for
those who came.
The theme of the day was "
Towards freedom", many of us in our introduction express what we thought
freedom was. In the table topics, our members spoke on freedom as a child, as
adult, freedom should be given to animals or should there be hunt down, some
spoke on leaders who fought for freedom and also freedom for the nation.
"The Word of the Day was
Exert, the grammarian Vijaykumar said the meaning of the Word means is
to apply force in regards to an object or it is used as person makes a
physical or mental effort . Members took the opportunity to use the Word
of the Day in many ways, as a force used rightfully in achieving
success.
We learned much from the speakers.
Our first speaker Toastmaster Wendy spoke on the importance of medical check
up. She said we should not take it for granted. She mentioned about people she
knew that passed away because they took it lightly. In fact she even showed her
own medical report to convince us that even a healthy person like her need to
look at grey areas that can cause a problem.
Our Second speaker DTM Ken Chan shared on the title Liars. He brought home the point that we rebuke lies but we did not realise that we were taught to speak lies by our parents, later on we grew up with it. He later quoted instances when lie was sometimes more accepted than truth. Even when dealing with our spouse. It was certainly a humorous speech.
Our third speaker inspired us by narrating how dreams always seemed impossible. He pointed out that impossibility actually was in us and not in the dream itself.
In the advance speeches we had
Haji Hashim ACB, ACS, who shared to us as his group of employees of the
company how they achieved success even when it looked impossible. He pointed
out how achieving they managed to go each year for overseas trip, overcoming
the hurdles of impossibilities. It was a speech of him recollecting the success
his team achieved in Philips Malaysia,
Dr. Thilla, on the other hand, was also doing her advance project speech by taking a role as TME. She introduced and edify all the speakers to us. Well done!
Best Table Topics Speech: Victor Wan, ACB, ALB |
Best Project Speech: Hj. Hashim Adnan, ACB, ALS |
Standing Ovation to Victor Ong, DTM. Congratulations! |
Overall, we had a good lively meeting with much laughter. Solmez Parpaei inspired us in clapping. She encouraged us to initiate clapping after a presentation or after receiving an award, till a person returns to the seat. This enlighten the atmosphere to a lively experience.
Yours sincerely,
Mathew Philippose, CC, CL
