#382 - Holiday Season!

The holiday’s… It’s the holidays! We’ll spin around and sing a song! Yes! The week’s theme was Holiday Season! It’s now time for you to “wind down” and read this post! Ha! Ha! Yes! The word of the day was “wind down”. It means to gradually complete something or to relax after great excitement or worry
The meeting began at 19.15pm with our Assistant SAA introducing the house rules, leading the Toastmasters’ promise and inviting the President to give his address. Ron Yeap, CC then took the lead and gave his charming opening speech. Upon inviting the Grammarian to introduce the word of the day, Ron then invited the guests to give a brief introduction of themselves, encouraging them to speak of the theme whilst using the word of the day. Everyone gave their bright thoughts about the holiday season.
Alas, it was time for our wonderful Toastmaster of the Evening to take stage. Manish Jha, CC, came well prepared with lots of info on the History of Toastmasters and the role player were called to introduce their roles.
Shain Anand was also the Grammarian for the day and Serena was the “Ah Counter”. The Timer was Mr. Sivadas from Friendship Toastmasters Club and last but not least the General Evalutor was the cheerful Toastmaster Seki Ng, ACB, ALB.
We then arrived to one of the most interesting sessions in Toastmasters which was the Table Topics Session. Here’s where we challenge ourselves with impromptu speaking. The Table Topics Master was Toastmaster Chitirra who had an array of topics that went along with the theme. Many guests and members stood up to the challenge that night and shared their thoughts and memories according to the topic.

Upon that we moved on to the main section which was the prepared speeches. We had only two speakers for the night as we had to cut short our meeting for the Pathways briefing. The first speech was by Mathew with his title “A Ray of Hope”. What hope? He explained about the possibilities for people who suffer from Psoriasis. He showed pictures of the disorder while enlightening the crowd that truly there is a ray of hope for people who have it.

Next was Wendy with her 2nd last speech. Check List. As a mum she’s had many things to do especially for her kids and so she’s always equipped with a check list and shared with us how it has benefited her multiple times. Indeed I agree with her. We then went for a short break and mingled around with the many guests who attended that week.

The next session was taken over by our General Evaluator, Seki Ng, ACB, ALB. He was an enthusiastic speaker and led the session with great excitement. The table topics evaluation was presented by May Ong, CC, ALB and then the individual speech evaluators gave their respective evaluation. After the 5 min open evaluation, the role players gave their respective reports.

Today’s meeting was special and cut short for a very key session we allocated time for. It was the Pathway Briefing session by Mr. Ramdas Nayer, DTM. The Pathway is the new education system for Toastmasters. The previous steps to reaching Distinguished Toastmasters have now changed where we combine both the communication and leadership manuals. Mr. Ramdas gave a detailed description of the new program and everyone was left excited and curious about this new education system.

We drew the meeting to an end with our usual awards presentation, some key announcements on events and happenings in Toastmasters and of course the closing address by our President.
We took a happy group photo and called it a night.

Sincerely,
Thanks to the Team,
Manish Jha, CC
