Toastmasters Meeting #347
The first
meeting of our club was our club contest
, held on 12th January 2016
we had our annual International Speech and table topics contest, surely it gave
us memory of what the club has shaped many of us to be able to give good speech
and impromptu speech. Our winner for
speech contest Kevin Khoo our winner for the speech and Ken Chan winner for
table topics will represent us for the area level to be held in April of this
year.
To date our club
as received the distinguished club status now we need to move on to President
Club Status. Thus, we have 3 speakers on January 26th meeting going
on to complete competent communication speeches to award our club to the next
level. Every achievement on the individual level contributes to the achievement
in club level.
Our table topics Master this time was none other than our IPP Serena Kong she brought up many interesting items linked to the Chinese New Year celebration, the speaker was to speak on the item. Interestingly our Theme was “Year of the Monkey” which speaks the Chinese New Year for 2016.
The Word of the Day Agile gave another reason for the speakers to connect for an interesting speech. Surely all had an interesting time.
Our first
speaker in this meeting was Cheng Seng San who gave us a speech on a “turn of
events”. He was in Singapore for a fun filled vacation but the event turned nasty
when the car they were travelling met with an accident. Cheng in his speech try
to fulfil the objectives that were required, the topic in the manual “Body
Speaks. He tried to move his body as he described the event.
Next speaker was Chee Heng King, his speech entitled “My first interview” spoke of the challenges he had to go for this interview. The relief is he got through the interview, he tried to qualify what be the reason he was chosen. In his speech, he attempted to fulfil the objectives of vocal variety.
Another
interesting speaker was Manish Kumar he captivated the audience with his speech
Handwriting is Brain-Writing. The speech topic required him to do a research on
his topic. He got the audience glued by his amazing research how the hand-writing
of a person can determine who the person actually is. Handwriting moving to the
right or to the left or straight. Even the signatures. It was an interesting
time.
Our final
speaker a very humorous member in our club Kelvin Chong he had a speech title,
“ who do you love more”, he asked interesting questions like who do you save if
you can only save one person from drowning wife or mother. His topic in the
manual was to make them laugh, yes he lived up to it, and he made the room rock
with laughter. How interesting to hear these prepared speeches. For those who have difficulty in prepared
speeches you can always try first on our table topics.
The break this
time was special because members enjoyed with the Chinese tradition of “Lou
Sang” a traditional Chinese dish that requires all to stir the dish and lift up
the pieces as high as you can. An interesting meal of the usual items ended the
break at the call of the SAA.
The SAA Chong Ji Sheng called the meeting to order after the break. The TME welcomed the General Evaluator (GE) Benz Chan to take over the meeting. As usual the General Evaluator usually from another club. For this meeting the GE is from Friendship Toastmasters club. The GE led the team of evaluators, I should say all the evaluators were extremely good. Starting with the table topics evaluator and followed by Speech Evaluator. The team of evaluators are Vijaykumar for table topics, EK Yeo for Speaker Cheng and for our 2nd speaker King his evaluator was Ken Chan, Haji Hashim gave his evaluation for Manish for the final speaker we had Dr Thilla. It was so rewarding to hear all the speakers.
The GE called upon the Grammarian, Ah Counter and timer to give their reports. I should say much credit should be given to the toastmaster of the evening Kevin Khoo who led the program on time. This meeting had many elements that add fun and humor, it was truly a delightful time when our distinguished Toastmaster Ken Chan gave and innovation speech with much humor at the start of the meeting. Surely the reader will be looking forward to see what the next meeting as in store. I like to end with this thought by saying “Seeing is believing”, Come and see for yourself what a single toastmasters meeting can give you an experience of a life time.

Toastmasters Meeting #346
As the saying goes “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail”.
The first meeting of the year 2016
for Money Mastery-KL is always an exciting one. We had our club International
Speech and Table Topics Contests on 12th January 2016. The contests
organizing team were led by Toastmaster Wendy Sim and worked with several newly
joined members.
Wendy exercised her remarkable
leadership. She is a person who thinks things through and then follows through.
Although this is her first time to organize the club contests, she has the
ability to recognize the problems before they become emergencies.
On 6th
January, she called all the role players to discuss the flow of the contests. Wendy,
Vijayakumar, Eugene Chun, CS Quah, Ooi Yee, Fung Jiun, Ji Sheng, Serena and Ron
attended the meeting. All of the role players took time to set up the contests
venue and played their respective roles when Vijay acted as Contest Toastmaster
to lead the contest. This rehearsal had provided the role players the opportunity
to familiarize with their up-coming responsibilities. It also helped to reduce
potential hiccups on the contests day, essentially for the newly joined members
who had not witnessed the contests before.
On the contests day, all the role
players reached the venue before 7 p.m. The briefing for both role players and
contestants were began at 7pm in two different rooms. Our club contests
toastmasters were CP Lau, ACB, ALB and Dr. Thilla Chelliah, ACS, ALB. The contest chief judge was E Son Lee, DTM.
The meeting was called to order by
SAA Fung Jiun. He was steady and did not show any nervousness at all. Kudos,
SAA Fung Jiun! The contest chair, Toastmaster Wendy Sim thanked the supports
and helps given by the role players within the clubs and from other clubs. Club
President, Mathew, CC, CL on the other hand, was very pleased to see the club
members actively participating the club contests.
We had 5 contestants for
International Speech Contest and 7 contestants for Table Topics™ Contest. Each
of them gave very interesting speech.
Ken reminded us that life is like a
dance. Life isn’t waiting for the storm to stop, it is about learning to “Dance in the rain”. We may have no
control over the circumstances but have a choice on how we respond to the
situation.
“Friends helping friends” was presented by Kelvin Chong. He shared his election experience and
how he realized who the real friends in life were.
Manish Kumar told that we would have
some important questions unanswered in life. However, we were not in presence
in every moment and often ended up with lots frustrations. He advised us when
we got confused and felt frustrated, “Find
the answer” and work on what is the important things in life to opt for
greater satisfaction.
KL Loh, on the other hand, gave a very
touching story about how his son regained consciousness after a car accident
and his faith to God. Nothing is happier
than seeing his son gaining back consciousness and it was “The best Christmas gift” that he had ever received.
We had the entertaining speech from
Kevin Khoo. He made us laughed on how he procrastinated to make a sales call.
He caught us kept listening to his speech as we used to say, “No, I am not ready yet” when we want to
procrastinate.
We had a short break and after that Dr.
Thilla Chelliah, ACS, ALB took the control and led us on the table topics™
contest. 6 of contestants were being escorted to the holding room and the left
the first contestant in the room. Dr. Thilla Chelliah, ACS, ALB prepared the
topic “Do you think peace still exist in
this world?” for this contest. All the contestants attempted and answered
the questions within the time frame.
While
the chief judge and the ballot counters were deliberating the results, SAA Fung
Jiun took over the session and began the certificate presentations. The Contest
Toastmasters, CP Lau, ACB, ALB and Dr. Thilla Chelliah, ACS, ALB gave
certificates to all the contestants and the Contest Chair, Wendy Sim presented
the token of appreciation to all the role players.
The
contests came to the exciting moment when the chief judge passed the results to
both contest chairs. The results as below:
Congratulations to all the winners as well as to the contestants. The greatest gift was to witness the breakthrough of each contestants. Well done and don't give up!
After that, our Area Director, Srinivas, ACB, CL presented "Simply Distinguished" pins to President, Mathew as the club had achieved 5 DCP goals. The meeting ended with the birthday celebration between Lakhmichand, DTM and Serena Kong, ACB.
