Meeting Theme: House of Cards |
11th August was a great
night. Members and guests were sharing their opinion towards the theme of the
night “House of Cards”. What is House of Cards? A famous TV series? You might be
right, but we were not discussing about
the TV series in the meeting.
Our club Acting President, Ron Yeap, CC quickly took over the control from
the SAA SS Cheng to start the meeting. He told that theme was interesting, very timely, topic
that very closed to our daily concerns. From
its literal meaning; A house of cards (also known as a card tower) is a
structure created by stacking playing cards on top of each other. It refers to a flimsy structure, arrangement,
or situation that is in danger of collapsing or failing.
The word of the day is capricious. All the members and guests were happily introduced
themselves by using the theme of the day as well as the word of the day.
Next, our pretty Toastmasters of the
evening, Wendy Sim inspired us with Confucius quote, “The strength of a nation derives from
the integrity of the home". Just like John D. MacDonald
said, “Integrity is not a conditional word. It
doesn't blow in the wind or change with the weather.” She encouraged us to
connect with friends with
integrity and be an integrity person.
Also, she introduced Malcolm Sze, CC,CL
, general evaluator who is a member from Sai Master Toastmasters Club. He is
also the President of Mandarin & Cantonese Toastmasters Club. On the other
hand, David Tan, CC, CL from Malacca Toastmasters Club volunteered to play role
as grammarian. “Ah” Counter was played by SS Cheng and timer was taken by Serena
Kong, ACB.
The night became more interesting when
CP Lau, ACB, ALB took over the control as humour master. He shared with us the
arguments among the organs, i.e., eyes, nose and mouth, which one was more important
and how they should be re-positioned. We all had good laughs on the arguments
and indeed, it was a good humour speech.
